Shelton Travel Service was founded in 1945 by Kay Shelton. She was a real pioneer, starting the first female owned agency in a five-state area. She overcame early obstacles and Shelton Travel grew to become one of the top 10 travel agencies in the Kansas City area.

In 1979 Mark Ebbitts (son of Kay Shelton) joined the agency after a very rewarding career as an Electrical Engineer. In 1989 he became President of Shelton Travel, and Kay was named Chairman.

Until 1995 we were located in downtown Kansas City, at which time we moved to much larger quarters near the Country Club Plaza. We are now located at 4800 Belleview Avenue, just 2 blocks west of the Plaza. Our offices are right on the corner, with convenient free parking in front.

Our staff has combines 235 years’ experience in the travel industry. Julie Watson, Kelly Marchand, Ann Flanders, Patrice Adams are vacation specialist and do corporate reservations. Gwenna Pence is our Africa specialist and handles many trips and safaris. Mark Ebbitts, our president, is in office daily and can assist with any travel needs. Lisa E. helps with his research. She also oversees accounting and marketing for the company.
We have additional support staff to further serve your travel needs.

Meet Our Shelton Travel Professionals

We would like to meet you and talk about travel, whether you need immediate assistance or just want vacation ideas. We are open Monday through Saturday and are closed Sunday except for special appointments. We invite you to drop by weekdays between 10:00 am and 5:30 pm or Saturday, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Ann

Ann Flanders has worked in travel over 33 years. Specializing in Italy, she’s traveled there
numerous times and visited many of their hotels. She has arranged many trips and excursions to
other European countries, France, England, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland plus many others.
European cruises and river cruises are her favorites. Over the years she has planned many trips
across the United States and abroad.
Ann, after graduating from KU, she became a flight attendant for TWA, traveled the world for
over 11 years. A husband and 2 daughters later she returned to travel and has so enjoyed
planning wonderful vacations for her clients ever since.

Julie

Julie Watson became a travel agent in 1995, always having a love of travel. She tries to travel herself every month or two. She has lots of experience in all-inclusive beach vacations, honeymoons, diving trips, Hawaii, Europe and South Pacific to name a few. Patrice

Patrice Adams is our newest advisor with just under 5 years’ experience. Patrice has explored
different cultures traveling throughout Europe while enlisted in the U.S. Army. Patrice found
that her visits to the Caribbeans sparked her passion to pursue her dream of returning to the
travel industry. She will share her area of expertise in island travel, Jamaica, Mexico and the
Bahamas and some of the great destinations within the United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and
St. Croix USVI. Patrice wants to partner with you to create a vacation or cruise experience
designed especially for you. Family, group or solo getaways can be professionally arranged.

Gwenna

Gwenna Pence is our Africa expert. She has been to Africa many, many times and she has set up both individual, family and group travel to Africa. Gwenna has over 20 years travel experience. She is an independent agent working on commission only, so she sets her own hours, but is always accessible via email, fax, or phone. Email her at gwenna@sheltontravel.com.
Lisa E. has over 35 years of experience in real estate and finance industry. She has traveled
extensively over the past 28 years with Mark.
Lisa is our office manager and helps answer the incoming calls. She is Marks research assistant.
She handles all administrative, marketing and accounting duties of the office and its associates.

  Mark Ebbitts 

 President of Shelton Travel. He has been in the business since 1977. He has traveled extensively and been round the world 2 times, and has visited over 250 countries. He works with upscale customers who want that Perfect Vacation. He is a CTC (certified travel counselor), honeymoon specialist, cruise professional counselor. He has worked on many European vacations including wonderful Amalfi coast of Italy, romantic Provence France, spectacular England and Ireland. His favorite honeymoon spots are Bali Indonesia, Phuket Thailand, Bora Bora and Morea in Tahiti, Amalfi coast, Virgin Gorda in the Caribbean, and Las Ventanas in Cabo, Mexico. Before travel, Mark worked for Procter and Gamble, and the Atomic Energy Commission. Mark has a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Mark is or has been active in many Kansas City charities including Jazzoo, Bacchus Foundation, O E Ellis Society, Chamber of Commerce Centurions, Jewel Ball, The Nelson Atkins Museum, Starlight Theatre, America Cancer Society, and many, many more. Mark has served on various travel advisory boards, and is a past member of the Aviation Board of Kansas City. Mark is also currently serving the City of Kansas City, MO on the Board of Zoning Adjustment. Mark is married to Lisa, and has a son Brian, and daughter Catherine.
